Mangrove Planting with UAJY (Biofair 2017)
March 9, 2017 - News
The 2017 UAJY Biofair had the theme of Green Never Stop Motion In My World or “Geronimo”. The series of events were held by students from the Technobiology faculty and usually included tree plantings. This time they decided to plant mangrove trees to support coastal conservation and provide more benefits for the people.
The event took place at Baros Mangrove Ecotourism site in Baros hamlet, Tirtohargo village, Kretek sub-district, Bantul Regency, DIY**. Indmira had become a routine partner for this amazing event for the past several years.
The day was Saturday, 4 March 2017, and the time was 9:00-11:30 in the morning. There were 800 saplings and 250 participants, which included the hamlet chief, village chief, Technobiology faculty members, Indmira representatives, UAJY students, and students from other universities.
These plantings would hopefully be an integral part in the environmental conservation in general, and coastal ecosystem sustainability in particular. Mangrove planting was chosen to show care for current as well as future conservation
